Last week, Mid-Atlantic Regional Seed Bank (MARSB) announced its receipt of $30,000 from Tioga Fund to replace funding in the wake of Federal environmental policy and grant rollbacks. The proposal for funding was written and prepared by Sarah Rice of Bleeding Heart Creative, LLC.

MARSB scouts, collects, cleans and banks wild seeds to develop an authentic and reliable native plant material supply chain capable of conserving Mid-Atlantic landscapes and biodiversity, as well as restoring ecosystems and natural services in the wake of climate disasters.

MARSB will utilize the funding to continue its previously planned programming in 2026. Last year, MARSB and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service embarked upon a landmark partnership to fund and cultivate native seed supply chains in the Mid-Atlantic region from Virginia to New York, striving for equity on par with long-established investments in Western federal lands’ natural resources.

Despite promising advancements and organizational growth, MARSB’s federal funding partnership was cut off due to policy changes beyond the organization or agency’s control. If federal partnership is not replaced by year-end, MARSB will be forced to begin laying off staff and cutting back operations in January 2026.

The fully funded Tioga Fund proposal was submitted in August 2025 and is the first grantwriting collaboration between MARSB and Bleeding Heart Creative, LLC.
