Deposit: Linocut Architectural Portrait Commission
Linocut loves the lines, angles and textures of architecture, and transforms the image of a building into timeless personal iconography. Commission a custom portrait of your beloved home, barn, shop, landmark or other structure.
I start with a photograph, work up an image, and carve a Speedball premium linoleum block to produce a final work of art. I can work from a photo you provide; or, for local clients, I can come take the perfect photograph. Depending on the aspect of your structure, the best light and contrast typically occurs in morning or late afternoon/evening.
Each project is a little different in terms of texture and detail—but ballpark, a highly detailed 5x7” block takes about 10-12 hours to produce, including printing. Larger sizes take incrementally longer, including 8x10” (~15 hours), 9x12” (~18 hours) and up to A3 (~24 hours), or other sizes in between custom to your needs. For reference, a 5 x 7” linoprint frames nicely inside a 8 x 10” mat within an 11 x 14” frame to make for a substantial piece of framed art. Framing is not included.
The final work is billed at a rate of $70/hour plus tax from taking the photograph and creating the image, to carving the block, through printing the final artwork. Additional prints can be made for family members and other uses included in the same $70/hour rate.
Commissions are booked on a first-come, first-serve basis with a $200 deposit. When your deposit is received, I will reach out via email to make arrangements for the reference photo you would like to use, and then begin creating the artwork, which I then transfer to the block for cutting. Once work on your commission has commenced, deposits are not refundable. Clients will be invoiced for the balance of their commission, plus sales tax, upon completion of commissioned art services to receive delivery of their final artwork(s). I’ll reach out via email with photos of the final results. Payments must be completed before the final product is shipped.
This makes a gift for parents and grandparents, new homeowners, newlyweds, or I can print multiples to create gifts for each member of your family. Please book commissions intended as gifts early to ensure timeliness of delivery to accommodate extra steps like framing.
HAVE A QUESTION? Email sarahaverygordon@gmail.com with ANY inquiries. I’m always happy to answer questions about production timelines, gifting, photo tips, requesting multiple prints, and more—and will write you back ASAP.
